The Tiger Cave Temple, Krabi

tiger cave steps to summitIn Krabi there are many Buddhist temples, the Tiger Cave Temple is probably the most famous and the most visited.

The temple was founded around a cave at the bottom of a limestone cliff where, it is said, a tiger once lived…

Now the site consists of a Buddhist Temple, a meditation centre and a Chinese Pagoda.

At the Tiger Temple follow the signs for the ‘ancient tree’ and you will find yourself in a small patch of very old lowland tropical rainforest enclosed by the soaring walls of the mountain. It is a place of quiet and peacefulness and a refreshingly cool and shady place on a hot day. The tress in this natural garden are very tall and very old.

If you are feeling energetic there is a pathway to the summit of the mountain over the temple. The sign at the bottom tells us there are 1237 steps and most of them irregularly spaced. The climb is worthwhile, at the top is a golden Buddha overlooking Krabi town and the coastline.

A visit to the Tiger Cave Temple can be made at anytime and as part of a Jungle Tour or Krabi Town Tour.
